2 Kgs 5:1-15ab; Ps 42:2, 3; 43:3, 4; Lk 4:24-30
R. (see 42:3) Athirst is my soul for the living God.
When shall I go and behold the face of God?
As the hind longs for the running waters,
so my soul longs for you, O God.
When shall I go and behold the face of God?
Athirst is my soul for God, the living God.
When shall I go and behold the face of God?
When shall I go and behold the face of God?
Send forth your light and your fidelity;
they shall lead me on
And bring me to your holy mountain,
to your dwelling-place.
When shall I go and behold the face of God?
Then will I go in to the altar of God,
the God of my gladness and joy;
Then will I give you thanks upon the harp,
O God, my God!

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
Even in the presence of prophets, there's suffering. It doesn't matter if it's Elijah, Elisha or Jesus who prompts us to action. If we dismiss their call, we remain in sorrow. It isn't the role of prophets alone to ease the misery of this world. It's a responsibility of all people of faith. We cannot sit back, make excuses and expect others to take up the task of caring for the lowly and needy. We need to take the message to heart and be models of justice and compassion. May we open our eyes and our hearts to those the Lord sends into our midst, be they prophets or everyday people, and cooperate with them in goodwill.
Lord, help us to see and welcome you in everyone we meet today, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage
by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)
We shall also, through the personality of Christ, with simplicity of intention and with fruitive love, transcend ourselves, and also the created being of Christ, and rest in our inheritance, that is, in the Divine Being in eternity. This Christ always desires to give us in ghostly wise, whenever we so exercise ourselves and make ourselves in readiness for Him. And He desires that we shall receive Him both in a sacramental and a spiritual way, as is meet and right and as reason demands. Though a man may not always have such feelings and such desires, if he intend the praise of God and His glory, and the increase of his own being and blessedness, he may go freely to the table of the Lord, if his conscience be clean from mortal sin.
