Message of the Day
But what I would like to say is that the spiritual life is a life in which you gradually learn to listen to a voice that says something else, that says, "You are the beloved and on you my favour rests."... I want you to hear that voice. It is not a very loud voice because it is an intimate voice. It comes from a very deep place. It is soft and gentle. I want you to gradually hear that voice. We both have to hear that voice and to claim for ourselves that that voice speaks the truth, our truth. It tells us who we are. That is where the spiritual life starts - by claiming the voice that calls us the beloved.

Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
1 Jn 3:11-21; Ps 100:1b-2, 3, 4, 5; Jn 1:43-51
R. (2a) Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;
serve the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful song.
Know that the LORD is God;
he made us, his we are;
his people, the flock he tends.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him; bless his name.
The LORD is good:
the LORD, whose kindness endures forever,
and his faithfulness, to all generations.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
And Jesus said to him, "Follow me."
This succinct directive transformed the life of Philip, just as it has for all of Jesus' followers. Down through the centuries, we have often lost our way, but eventually, with the guidance of the Spirit, we have heard these two words again and turned our hearts around. As in the past, it is difficult to follow Jesus' teachings in light of the complexity of moral issues and the intensity of opposing solutions offered by fellow Christians. With prayer and a humble heart, we will be able to hear his voice, and the way will become clearer.
Lord, let us hear your voice; direct our steps in your path, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
- Imitation of Christ, by Thomas A. Kempis
The Disciple
Let Your grace, almighty God, assist us, that we who have undertaken the office of the priesthood may serve You worthily and devoutly in all purity and with a good conscience. And if we cannot live as innocently as we ought, grant us at least to lament duly the wrongs we have committed and in the spirit of humility and the purpose of a good will to serve You more fervently in the future.
