Message of the Day
Give me, O Lord, a steadfast heart which no unworthy thought can drag downwards; an unconquered heart which no tribulation can wear out; an upright heart which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside. Bestow upon me also, O Lord my God, understanding to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
- Thomas Aquinas

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest.
When the poor widow gave all she had to live on, she was not only generous but totally trusting in God's goodness and bounty. By modern standards, her action would be regarded as foolish or naive. Yet even today, many people give all they have to minister to the poor. I just met a young couple, newlyweds, who have sacrificed everything, even privacy, to live at a Catholic Worker house where the homeless find refuge. These inspiring young people sacrifice physical comforts we take for granted in order to give all they have so that others might find their way.
O Lord, teach us to give all, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage
by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)
Now understand this: this person shall go out and observe God in His glory with all saints. And he shall behold the rich and generous outflowing of God, with glory, and with Himself, and with inconceivable delights towards all the saints, according to the longing of all spirits; and how these flow back, with themselves, and with all that they have received and can achieve, towards that same rich Oneness from which all bliss comes forth.
- Chapter 40: The established person shall go out toward God and all the saints.
