Message of the Day
Pride slays thanksgiving, but an humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grow. A proud person is seldom grateful, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.
Today in the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, and this passage reminds us of what we are most thankful for -- our redemption. In this country, we are also thankful for our personal freedom to make choices and determine the course of our life. We give thanks for the opportunities that allow us to make the most of our talents. We give thanks for the chance to choose work we find meaningful and fulfilling and that contributes to the common good. We give thanks for God's gifts, including challenges that help us grow and friends and family who support us.
Gracious Lord, we thank you.

Spiritual Reading
- Imitation of Christ, by Thomas A. Kempis
The Disciple
I feel there are especially necessary for me in this life two things without which its miseries would be unbearable. Confined here in this prison of the body I confess I need these two, food and light. Therefore, You have given me in my weakness Your sacred Flesh to refresh my soul and body, and You have set Your word as the guiding light for my feet. Without them I could not live aright, for the word of God is the light of my soul and Your Sacrament is the Bread of Life.
