Message of the Day

There is no hope of establishing a more Christian social order except through the labour and sacrifice of those in whom the Spirit of Christ is active.

Lectionary Readings of the Day
   http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month

Wis 7:22b-8:1;    Ps 119:89, 90, 91, 130, 135, 175;    Lk 17:20-25

R. (89a) Your word is for ever, O Lord.

Your word, O LORD, endures forever;
it is firm as the heavens.

Through all generations your truth endures;
you have established the earth, and it stands firm.

According to your ordinances they still stand firm:
all things serve you.

The revelation of your words sheds light,
giving understanding to the simple.

Let your countenance shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.

Let my soul live to praise you,
and may your ordinances help me.

Reflection on the Gospel
  - from Daily Bread
    http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

For behold, the kingdom of God is among you.

Reading the headlines most days, it's hard to imagine the kingdom of God here and now. The same could be said in the fifth century when Pope Leo ascended to the Chair of Peter. He faced upheaval from all directions: rampant heresy in the West, doctrinal controversy and disunity in the church in the East and barbarian invaders in Rome itself. His strengths, however, included his dedication to his role as shepherd, his wisdom and authority in doctrine and his determination to protect the church from spiritual and physical invasion. When we feel our church, our communities, our very selves under siege, we cannot surrender; we must look to Jesus' preaching and healing ministry to build the kingdom wherever we are.

To be a sign of the kingdom for others, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
    - Imitation of Christ, by Thomas A. Kempis

The Disciple

You are my witness, O God, that nothing can comfort me, no creature give me rest but You, my God, Whom I desire to contemplate forever.  But this is not possible while I remain in mortal life, and, therefore, I must be very patient and submit myself to You in every desire.
