Message of the Day
Whether we like it or not, asking is the rule of the Kingdom. If you may have everything by asking in His Name, and nothing without asking, I beg you to see how absolutely vital prayer is.
- Charles Haddon Spurgeon
(What do you ask of God at this time in your life?)

Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
Mal 3:13-20b; Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6; Lk 11:5-13
R. (Ps 40:5a) Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.
Blessed the man who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.
He is like a tree
planted near running water,
that yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.
Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish?
Jesus exhorts his disciples to be persistent in prayer. He then assures them that in response to their requests, the Father will give them only good things. We should never imagine that everything that comes our way is from God. We encounter evil in the world. We suffer. These are great mysteries, but they are not from God. Like a parent, God may be there for us and supply for our need in ways we don't always understand or appreciate. But we are in right relationship with the Lord when we trust that he is with us in all things, when we continually seek the guidance of his Holy Spirit and act accordingly.
For complete trust in God, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
- Imitation of Christ, by Thomas A. Kempis
The Voice of Christ
He who prepares himself only when festivals approach or custom demands, will often find himself unprepared. Blessed is he who offers himself a sacrifice to the Lord as often as he celebrates or communicates.
Be neither too slow nor too fast in celebrating but follow the good custom common to those among whom you are. You ought not to cause others inconvenience or trouble, but observe the accepted rule as laid down by superiors, and look to the benefit of others rather than to your own devotion or inclination.
