Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
Rom 3:21-30; Ps 130:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6; Lk 11:47-54
R. (7) With the Lord there is mercy, and fullness of redemption.
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
LORD, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to my voice in supplication.
If you, O LORD, mark iniquities,
Lord, who can stand?
But with you is forgiveness,
that you may be revered.
I trust in the LORD;
my soul trusts in his word.
My soul waits for the LORD
more than sentinels wait for the dawn.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
Woe to you lawyers! You have taken away the key of knowledge.
Jesus' criticism in the long passage we read this week is not limited to the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Here, he also chastises the lawyers, those who lay impossible burdens on people but will not lift a finger to lighten them. Jesus tells them they also are hypocrites who "stand behind the deeds" of their fathers and thereby share in the guilt of their fathers who persecuted and killed the prophets. In this day, we share in the guilt of our generation who persecuted and killed today's prophets. Those who spoke out against unfair treatment of minorities, immigrants and the impoverished often paid with their lives.
Lord, forgive our apathy and indifference to injustice and change our hearts, we pray.

The Disciple
O MOST sweet Lord Jesus, how great is the happiness of the devout soul that feasts upon You at Your banquet, where there is set before her to be eaten no other food but Yourself alone, her only Lover, most desired of all that her heart can desire!
