Message of the Day
We must pray not first of all because it feels good or helps, but because God loves us and wants our attention.

Lectionary Readings of the Day

Rom 1:1-7; Ps 98:1- 4; Lk 11:29-32
R. (2a) The Lord has made known his salvation.
Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done wondrous deeds;
His right hand has won victory for him,
his holy arm.
The LORD has made his salvation known:
in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice.
He has remembered his kindness and his faithfulness
toward the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation by our God.
Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;
break into song; sing praise.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
She came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here.
Jesus, the source of all wisdom, is in our very midst -- but how often do we fill our hours with foolishness when we could immerse ourselves in his teachings? Honestly consider: Is it wisdom we really seek, or a more comfortable life? Jesus asks us to do some difficult things, and we may not be ready to make these sacrifices. Are we willing to love our enemies? Really? In our churches, do we pray for those who persecute us, or instead, do we elect leaders who are determined on violence?
O Lord, let us seek wisdom and the grace to reform our lives, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage
by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)
Now Christ wills that this man go out and walk in this light, in the way of this light. Therefore this enlightened man shall go out and shall mark his state and his life from within and from without, and see whether he is perfectly like unto Christ, according to His manhood and according to His Godhead. For we have been created in the image and after the likeness of God. And he shall raise his enlightened eyes, by means of the illuminated reason, to the intelligible Truth, and mark and behold in a creaturely way the most high Nature of God and the fathomless attributes which are in God: for to a fathomless Nature belong fathomless virtues and activities.
- Chapter 37: The second rill enlightens understanding.
