Message of the Day
Study always to have Joy, for it befits not the servant of God to show before his brother or another sadness or a troubled face.

Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
1 Tm 4:12-16; Ps 111:7-8, 9, 10; Jn 19:25-27
R. (2) How great are the works of the Lord!
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
sure are all his precepts,
Reliable forever and ever,
wrought in truth and equity.
He has sent deliverance to his people;
he has ratified his covenant forever;
holy and awesome is his name.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
prudent are all who live by it.
His praise endures forever.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son."
Then he said to the disciple, "Behold your mother." Jesus calls upon his blessed mother to be the mother of all Christians. He entrusts us to her care and urges us to welcome her into our lives. A mother's love is indeed a precious gift. Motherhood is a unique vocation often mixed with immense joy and agonizing grief brought on by children's choices and challenges. Even in a time of great personal sorrow for Mary, she fulfills the role of our gentle and loving guardian. We're so grateful for our mothers, especially Mary, who epitomizes the sacrifice many women make to raise children of faith and integrity.
Mary, our Mother, help us to embrace our mission to lead all children to the kingdom of heaven, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
- Imitation of Christ, by Thomas A. Kempis
The Voice of Christ
How sad that some dissolute and lax persons are willing to postpone confession and likewise wish to defer Holy Communion, lest they be forced to keep a stricter watch over themselves! Alas, how little love and devotion have they who so easily put off Holy Communion!
How happy and acceptable to God is he who so lives, and keeps his conscience so pure, as to be ready and well disposed to communicate, even every day if he were permitted, and if he could do so unnoticed.
