MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Prayer is not so much the means whereby God's will is bent to our
human desires, as it is that whereby our will is bent to God's
desires... The real end of prayer is not so much to get this or
that single desire granted, as to put human life into full and
joyful conformity with the will of God.
- Charles H. Brent (1862-1929), "With God in the World"
("What desires are you in touch with at this time in your life?
Present each one to God, praying "Thy will be done.")

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Gn 44:18-21, 23b-29; 45:1-5; Ps. 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21; Mt
10:7-15
R. (5a) Remember the marvels the Lord has done.
When the LORD called down a famine on the land
and ruined the crop that sustained them,
He sent a man before them,
Joseph, sold as a slave.
They had weighed him down with fetters,
and he was bound with chains,
Till his prediction came to pass
and the word of the LORD proved him true.
The king sent and released him,
the ruler of the peoples set him free.
He made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
"Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give."
If we are to imitate Christ, we're to ease the pain and burdens of
others in this world while focusing on the kingdom yet to come. Our
responsibility to our brothers and sisters in Christ is undeniable.
We're not encouraged just to give when we can or when it's
convenient. Jesus does not commission us only to look after people
who are close to us, with whom we're comfortable. We are to give
always and unceasingly to everyone in need. It's the least we can
do.
"Loving Father, may all our works reflect your goodness and
generosity, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Disciple
Forgive me, O God, forgive me my sins for Your Holy Name. Save my
soul which You have redeemed by Your most precious Blood. See, I
place myself at Your mercy. I commit myself to Your hands. Deal
with me according to Your goodness, not according to my malicious
and evil ways.
