MESSAGE OF THE DAY
I am persuaded that love and humility are the highest attainments
in the school of Christ and the brightest evidences that he is
indeed our master.

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Gn 22:1b-19; Ps. 115:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9; Mt 9:1-8
R. (9) I will walk in the presence of the Lord, in the land of the
living.
Not to us, O LORD, not to us
but to your name give glory
because of your kindness, because of your truth.
Why should the pagans say,
"Where is their God?"
Our God is in heaven;
whatever he wills, he does.
Their idols are silver and gold,
the handiwork of men.
They have mouths but speak not;
they have eyes but see not;
They have ears but hear not;
they have noses but smell not.
Their makers shall be like them,
everyone who trusts in them.
The house of Israel trusts in the LORD;
he is their help and their shield.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
"Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say,
'Rise and walk'"?
Our sinful nature is crippling. It's difficult to fathom that Jesus
longs to heal us and make us whole. In fact, when we're trapped in
the guilt and consequence of sin, it seems much more plausible that
Jesus can perform the miracle of making a paralytic walk than mend
our wretchedness and brokenness. Jesus understands our physical and
emotional pain and reaches out in mercy and forgiveness. He
approaches us in a way we can understand and speaks to us in words
that make sense. He offers each of us a miracle through the gift of
reconciliation.
"Gentle Jesus, touch our brokenness and heal us, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Disciple
What can I do for all my sins but humbly confess and lament them,
and implore Your mercy without ceasing? In Your mercy, I implore
You, hear me when I stand before You, my God. All my sins are most
displeasing to me. I wish never to commit them again. I am sorry
for them and will be sorry as long as I live. I am ready to do
penance and make satisfaction to the utmost of my power.
