MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Whence comes this idea that if what we are doing is fun, it can't
be God's will? The God who made giraffes, a baby's fingernails, a
puppy's tail, a crooknecked squash, the bobwhite's call, and a
young girl's giggle, has a sense of humor. Make no mistake about
that.

82

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

2 Cor 1:1-11; Ps. 111:1b-2, 3-4, 7-8; Mt 6:7-15

R. (7a) Your works, O Lord, are justice and truth.

I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart
in the company and assembly of the just.
Great are the works of the LORD,
exquisite in all their delights.

Majesty and glory are his work,
and his justice endures forever.
He has won renown for his wondrous deeds;
gracious and merciful is the LORD.

The works of his hands are faithful and just;
sure are all his precepts,
Reliable forever and ever,
wrought in truth and equity.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"Your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

By teaching us how to pray, Jesus teaches us what our most profound
needs are. Besides the needs of the body, our daily bread, there
are greater spiritual needs: the courage to forgive others, the
strength to resist or stay away from temptation. We pray for the
coming of his kingdom, reminding ourselves of the injunction to
work to bring that about. We pray to do God's will in our daily
lives, thereby turning control of our lives over to the Father
himself. And we pray to be delivered from evil. These are our needs
as Jesus sees them, and it is all we need to pray for. By praying
the prayer Jesus taught us, we honor the Father but also instruct
ourselves.

"To be answers to prayer, we pray. "

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Disciple

The Disciple

ALL things in heaven and on earth, O Lord, are Yours. I long to
give myself to You as a voluntary offering to remain forever Yours.
With a sincere heart I offer myself this day to You, O Lord, to
Your eternal service, to Your homage, and as a sacrifice of
everlasting praise. Receive me with this holy offering of Your
precious Body which also I make to You this day, in the presence of
angels invisibly attending, for my salvation and that of all Your
people.
