Here is a book for Christian couples who want to grow in their
relationship with one another and with God. Topics covered include
communication skills, spirituality, understanding personality
types, sexuality issues, and dealing with practical matters like
finances and raising children. Couples can read this book together,
or separately, then pause, discuss, and pray together. Wherever you
are in your marriage (or if you and your partner are planning to
marry), this rare blend of faith-building spiritual counsel and
problem-solving practical advice is an aid to finding (or keeping)
that close bond you have always wanted with your spouse.

Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD, my God, you are great indeed!
How manifold are your works, O Lord!
the earth is full of your creatures;

May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD be glad in his works!
Pleasing to him be my theme;
I will be glad in the LORD.

When you send forth your spirit, they are created,

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK

- Kingdom of God

The kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven seem to be variations
of the same idea. A kingdom implies a king. Our king is Jesus.
Jesus said His kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36). Jesus'
authority did not come from man but from God (Luke 22:29).

Entrance into the kingdom of God is by a new birth (John 3:5),
repentance (Matt. 3:2), and the divine call (1 Thess. 2:12). We are
told to seek the kingdom of God first (Matt. 6:33) and to pray for
its arrival (Matt. 6:10). "The kingdom of God is not eating and
drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,"
(Rom. 14:17). It is also a future kingdom where full ruler-ship in
the actual presence of the king Jesus will occur when He returns to
earth.

SAINT OF THE WEEK

St. Albert Chmielowski (1845-1916): June 17

Born in Igolomia near Kraków as the eldest of four children in a
wealthy family, he was christened Adam. During the 1864 revolt
against Czar Alexander III, Adam's wounds forced the amputation of
his left leg.

His great talent for painting led to studies in Warsaw, Munich and
Paris. Adam returned to Kraków and became a Secular Franciscan. In
1888 he took the name Albert when he founded the Brothers of the
Third Order of Saint Francis, Servants to the Poor. They worked
primarily with the homeless, depending completely on alms while
serving the needy, regardless of age, religion or politics. A
community of Albertine sisters was established later.

Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1983 and canonized him six years
later.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

"The Book that John Wrote," by Earl F. Palmer. Regent College
Publishing, 2002.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1573831433/ref=noism/christianspiritu/

Earl Palmer, pastor of the University Presbyterian church in
Seattle, Washington, sets out to explain the Gospel written by
John, the son of Zebedee. Not all Scripture scholars agree that
that John is the author of the fourth Gospel. The author sees John
as an intimate friend of Jesus who knew Him quite well and can
tell readers not only what Jesus did but what He thought and felt.
The author of John gives an account that shows Jesus as beyond our
control, yet fully human and real. He sees Jesus as one who can
fulfill the deepest hopes and longings of humanity at the same
time that He is disappointing
expectations.

Palmer believes that the fourth Gospel was written to supplement
the accounts that were circulating in the church. He notes that
John seldom repeats an incident found in the synoptic and if he
does, it is to clarify actions, motives, and events. This is one
more indication that the author of John knew Jesus well. This
Gospel aims to elicit the same faith and trust that Jesus called
forth in His lifetime. John answers such questions as these:
Are there miracles? Is this a true story? What is the meaning of
life? Does God exist and does God speak to humans?

The author presents these goals in his writing: 1) to present the
Gospel as a reliable source in the life of Jesus, 2) to consider
issues in interpreting the Gospel, 3) to see what the text says
of the time two thousand years ago and what it means to day, 4)
what does Jesus mean for my life today.

The Meaning of Pentecost
-
http://www.faithclipart.com/guide/Christian-Holidays/meaning-of-pentecost.html

"Pentecost is the day that the church was born. Christ was
crucified, rose again, spent forty days with his disciples, then
ascended to heaven. Pentecost immediately followed. For two
millennia, Christians have been celebrating the church's birthday
with joy and exuberance. Pentecost takes place 50 days after Easter
Sunday. Here's how it all got started. . . "

So begins this web page, which features numerous helpful links to a
wide range of resources. If you would like a deeper understanding
and appreciation of the feast of Pentecost, this would be a good
place to start.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

- Golfing in Heaven

Bill, an avid golfer, contacts a "Medium" and asks if there is a
Golf Course in Heaven. The Medium says that his request is a big
order, but he will try and find out and get back to Bill in a few
days.

After several days go by, Bill finally gets a call from the Medium.
"Well," said Bill, "what did ya find out?"

"I've got good news and bad news for you," said the Medium.

"OK," "what's the good news" Bill exclaimed.

"Well," there is a beautiful 36 hole golf course in Heaven, and
you'll have 24 hour access with your own personal caddy," blurted
out the Medium.

"And the bad news?" asked Bill.

"You're due to tee-off this Sunday at around 10:30 in the morning."
