MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Don't imagine that if you meet a really humble man he will be what
most people call "humble" nowadays: he won't be a sort of greasy,
smarmy person, who's always telling you that, of course, he's
nobody. Probably all you'll think about him is that he seemed a
cheerful, intelligent chap who took a real interest in what you
said to him. If you do dislike him, it will be because you feel a
little envious of anyone who seems to enjoy life so easily. He will
not be thinking about humility; he won't be thinking about himself
at all. There I must stop. If anyone would like to acquire
humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step
is to realise that one is proud. And a biggish step, too. At least,
nothing whatever can be done before it. If you think you're not
conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed.
... C. S. Lewis (1898-1963), Christian Behavior

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Acts 1:1-11; Ps. 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9; Eph 1:17-23; Mt 28:16-20

R. (6) God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets
for the Lord.

All you peoples, clap your hands,
shout to God with cries of gladness,
For the LORD, the Most High, the awesome,
is the great king over all the earth.

God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy;
the LORD, amid trumpet blasts.
Sing praise to God, sing praise;
sing praise to our king, sing praise.

For king of all the earth is God;
sing hymns of praise.
God reigns over the nations,
God sits upon his holy throne.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted."

Doubt is natural, especially in the midst of what seems impossible.
The disciples spent a great deal of time with Jesus, yet it was
still hard for them to fathom that their friend possessed "all
power in heaven and on earth." They had the grace to witness
firsthand to the revelation that Jesus is one with God. It's in
their witness that our confusion is dispelled and we come to know
the truth. Sure, we'd like to observe such things with our own eyes
and come to understand on our own terms. We may still wrestle with
confusion, but we can be assured that in spite of their doubts, the
disciples received the grace to go forth, baptize and teach. Let's
go forth as we're commanded.

"Open our eyes, Lord, and remove our doubt, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

Offer yourself to Me, therefore, and give yourself entirely for God
-- your offering will be accepted. Behold, I offered Myself wholly
to the Father for you, I even gave My whole Body and Blood for food
that I might be all yours, and you Mine forever.
