R.    (14) I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.

O LORD, you have probed me, you know me:
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.
My journeys and my rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.

Truly you have formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother’s womb.
I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works.

My soul also you knew full well;
nor was my frame unknown to you
When I was made in secret,
when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth.

Book of the Week

Break through Pain: A Step-by-Step Mindfulness Meditation Program for Transforming Chronic and Acute Pain, by Shinzen Young. Sounds True, Inc. 2004
- Click here

This book offers a step by step mindfulness mediation program for transforming chronic and acute pain. A CD accompanies the text, and provides a step by step guide for meditation and reduction of pain. The author presents learning to greatly reduce and even eliminate the suffering that normally results from physical and psychological pain.

This is a way of focusing awareness while at the same time opening to it and dropping resistance. As the skill develops, the pain causes less suffering and may break up into a flow of pure energy, that is refreshing and satisfying.

The practice takes time, effort, and determination and can be used to relieve not only pain but emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, impatience, guilt, confusion, and jealousy. The practice may even reduce the need for drugs and surgery. The author wants you to begin "living your life again."

Saint of the Week

- June 26th. John & Paul

They are named in the Roman Canon of the Mass (Canon 1) but little is known of them. They were martyrs of the 4th. century; their church on the Caelian Hill in Rome was originally that of another saint, until their relics were brought there. Their ‘Acts’ (i.e. biography) are of late date and consist mainly of borrowings from stories of other martyrs. According to these, they were brother soldiers under the Emperor Constantine, and assured their commander on campaign in Thrace that he would be victorious if he became a Christian. Later, under Julian (‘the Apostate’), they were summoned to the imperial court, refused to obey, and after ten days were executed in the grounds of their own house on the Caelian Hill (i.e. where their church is today); there are indeed house foundations under their church in Rome, but further identification is impossible. Their celebration was removed from the Universal Calendar of the Church in 1969 along with various others where historical data were impossible to obtain.

Joke of the Week

Two guys were sitting outside a medical clinic. One of them was crying, tears were pouring down his face.

The other guy asked, "Why are you crying?"

The first one replied, "I came here for blood test."

The second one asked, "So? Why are you crying? Are you afraid?"

The first guy replied, "No. Not that. During the blood test they cut my finger."

Hearing this, the second one started crying.

The first one was astonished and asked the other, "Why are you crying?"

Then the second guy replied, "I have come for a urine test."
