MESSAGE OF THE DAY

- Ascension of our Lord -

Christ is already in that place of peace, which is all in all. He is on the right hand of God. He is hidden in the brightness of the radiance which issues from the everlasting throne. He is in the very abyss of peace, where there is no voice of tumult or distress, but a deep stillness--stillness, that greatest and most awful of all goods which we can fancy; that most perfect of joys, the utter profound, ineffable tranquillity of the Divine Essence. He has entered into His rest. That is our home; here we are on a pilgrimage, and Christ calls us to His many mansions which He has prepared.
      - John Henry "Cardinal" Newman

Acts 1:1-11;   Ps 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9;   Eph 1:17-23;   Lk 24:46-53

R.    (6) God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord.

All you peoples, clap your hands,
shout to God with cries of gladness,
For the LORD, the Most High, the awesome,
is the great king over all the earth.

God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy;
the LORD, amid trumpet blasts.
Sing praise to God, sing praise;
sing praise to our king, sing praise.

For king of all the earth is God;
sing hymns of praise.
God reigns over the nations,
God sits upon his holy throne.

Praying the Daily Gospels
 - by Philip St. Romain:

- Acts of the Apostles 1: 6 - 12 (Jesus ascends into heaven)

 After spending days teaching and revealing himself in different ways to his disciples, the risen Jesus is taken into full glory and is seated at the right Hand of the Father.  With his Ascension, he did not go away: he disappeared.  Henceforth, he is available to all people in all time, but through the interior life and the realm of spirit.  All creation now unfolds "in Christ."

* Spend some time thinking about what it means to be "in Christ."  How do you experience this?

* Pray for the grace to be more aware of the risen, ascended Christ in your life and in history.

THE IMITATION OF CHRIST
    - by Thomas a Kempis -

   Alas! What sort of life is this, from which troubles and miseries are
   never absent, where all things are full of snares and enemies? For
   when one trouble or temptation leaves, another comes. Indeed, even
   while the first conflict is still raging, many others begin
   unexpectedly. How is it possible to love a life that has such great
   bitterness, that is subject to so many calamities and miseries?
   Indeed, how can it even be called life when it begets so many deaths
   and plagues? And yet, it is loved, and many seek their delight in it.
