SPIRITUAL GROWTH RESOURCE OF THE MONTH

"Twelve Steps to Spiritual Wholeness: A Christian Pathway"
- by Philip St. Romain

This book presents the Twelve Steps of recovery groups as a way to
grow, to move toward a spiritual awakening, an awareness of our
true self in God. Every page bears gentle reassurance that
fulfillment of the Twelve Steps inspires a cleansing sense of
wholeness -- a renewed spirit that helps readers break free from
negative and sinful influences in their lives.

So may your way be known upon earth;
among all nations, your salvation.

May the nations be glad and exult
because you rule the peoples in equity;
the nations on the earth you guide.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK

- Fusion

Fusion is a copyist error in which the copyist combines the last
letter of one word with the first letter of the next word. An
example of this would be the sentence 'It is there in the nook'
becoming 'It is there in then ook'. In the case of the biblical
manuscripts, this error in copying would create a textual variant
which could be responsible for an apparent contradiction in the
text, which did not appear in the autograph.

SAINT OF THE WEEK

- St. Ignatius of Laconi

Ignatius is another sainted begging brother.

He was the second of seven children of peasant parents in Sardinia.
His path to the Franciscans was unusual. During a serious illness,
Ignatius vowed to become a Capuchin if he recovered. He regained
his health but ignored the promise. A riding accident prompted him
to renew the pledge, which he acted on the second time; he was 20
then. Ignatius's reputation for self-denial and charity led to his
appointment as the official beggar for the friars in Cagliari. He
fulfilled that task for 40 years; he was blind the last two years.

While on his rounds, Ignatius would instruct the children, visit
the sick and urge sinners to repent. The people of Cagliari were
inspired by his kindness and his faithfulness to his work. He was
canonized in 1951.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

"Caring for People God's Way: Personal and Emotional Issues,
Addictions, Grief, and Trauma," by Tim Clinton, Archibald Hart, and
George Ohlschlager. Nelson Reference and Electronics, 2005.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0785297758/ref=noism/christianspiritu/

This 543 page book brings together more than 20 leading Christian
professionals who specialize in resources on personal, emotional,
grief, loss, and trauma issues. Essentially based on biblical
truth, this book is especially intended for counselors and those
who want to be counselors. This book gives cutting edge treatments
and examines current issues in a professional manner.

The foundation of this book is based on 4 tenets: the revelation of
Jesus Christ; the important role of the Bible; the secondary role
of science and logic and history of Christian counseling; and the
person of the counselor, his training, experience, and credentials.
Basing the model of intervention on the story when God asked Adam
and Eve in garden, "Where are you?", the authors hold that in an
initial interview, the counselor needs to ask three questions:

1. Where do you say that you are located? (The problem)

2. Where do you want to be (Solution as you see it)

3. Where does God want you to be? (How does this correspond with
God's word in the Bible)

The chapters include: forgiveness, anxiety, addictions, gambling,
eating disorders, suicide, abortion, spending, credit abuse. The
chapters on sexual disorders make the book worth the $30.00 price.

WEB SITE OF THE WEEK

Eurozone crisis . . .
-
http://www.economywatch.com/economy-business-and-finance-news/eurozone-crisis-will-PIIGS-get-a-blanket-06-02.html

You might not have heard much on the news about all this, but it's
a very big deal worth paying attention to. In many ways, it might
be v. 2.0 of the Great Recession of 2008, coming just when things
are starting to seem to turn around.

This article will orient you to the basics. Even if you don't pay
much attention to these kinds of issues, it's another fine example
of just how interconnected and interdependent the nations of the
earth really are.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

- The foursome . . .

A well-respected surgeon was relaxing on his sofa one evening just
after arriving home from work. As he was tuning into the evening
news, the phone rang. The doctor calmly answered it and heard the
familiar voice of a colleague on the other end of the line.

"We need a fourth for poker," said the friend.

"I'll be right over," whispered the doctor.

As he was putting on his coat, his wife asked, "Is it serious?"

"Oh yes, quite serious," said the doctor gravely. "In fact, three
doctors are there already!"
