MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Properly understood, prayer is a mature activity indispensable to
the fullest development of personality--the ultimate integration of
our highest faculties. Only in prayer do we achieve that complete
and harmonious assembly of body, mind and spirit which gives the
frail human reed its unshakable strength.
- Alexis Carrel (1873-1944), "Prayer is Power"

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Acts 22:30; 23:6-11; Ps 16:1-2a and 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11; Jn
17:20-26
R. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.
Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge;
I say to the LORD, "My Lord are you."
O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup,
you it is who hold fast my lot.
I bless the LORD who counsels me;
even in the night my heart exhorts me.
I set the LORD ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence;
Because you will not abandon my soul to the nether world,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.
You will show me the path to life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- John 17:20-26 (Jesus prays for us)
We often forget that Jesus is as concerned about our own walk in
faith as he was for his disciples. By writing about this prayer of
petition Jesus made on our behalf, John reminds us that Jesus
continues to intercede for us before the Father.
- An old saying proclaims that our problem is not that we are not
good, but that we settle for less than the best. Do you believe
this? Are you striving to become the best person you can be? Are
you satisfied with your present level of spiritual growth?
- Pray for the grace to appreciate God's commitment to loving you.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
Nature turns all things back to self. It fights and argues for
self.
Grace brings all things back to God in Whom they have their
source. To
herself she ascribes no good, nor is she arrogant or
presumptuous. She
is not contentious. She does not prefer her own opinion to the
opinion
of others, but in every matter of sense and thought submits
herself to
eternal wisdom and the divine judgment.
