MESSAGE OF THE DAY

The soul that has devoted itself to God journeys along a rarely
traveled path that soars. The soul that loves God guides a
person's senses just like someone with sight will guide a friend
who is blind.
- Mechthild of Magdeburg, "The Flowing Light of the Godhead."

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

1 Cor 15:1-8; Ps 19:2-3, 4-5; Jn 14:6-14

R. (5) Their message goes out through all the earth.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day pours out the word to day;
and night to night imparts knowledge.

Not a word nor a discourse
whose voice is not heard;
Through all the earth their voice resounds,
and to the ends of the world, their message.

REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURES
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know
me, Philip?"

We can live together, love each other deeply, and still not really
know each other or appreciate each other as gifts from God. It was
only after Jesus rose from the dead and they were visited with the
Holy Spirit that the apostles "got it." It is only after our
children are visited with the grace of growing up that they "get
it." The apostles, and all Christians, are called to bear Christ to
the world, to reveal the face of God to those on our path, even our
children, even our parents.

"For the grace of discipleship, we pray."

THE ADORNMENT OF THE SPIRITUAL MARRIAGE
by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)

Out of this generosity there spring a supernatural zeal and
diligence in all virtues and all that is seemly. And none can feel
this zeal save him who overflows with generosity. It is an inward
restless striving after every virtue, after the likeness of Christ
and of all His saints. In this zeal a man longs to devote his heart
and his senses, his soul and his body, and all that he is, and all
that he has and all toward which he aspires, to the glory and
praise of God.

Chapter 20: Of Zeal and Diligence

LECTIO DIVINA PROCESS
- http://heartlandspirituality.org/vocations/prayer.html

First, you choose a passage of Scripture that you will pray with.
It might be the Gospel reading used in the liturgy of the day, or
anything else you want. The process then follows these steps:

* Reading (lectio) After settling in and quieting yourself,
read the passage slowly, prayerfully. Just let it sink in for a
minute or two, then read it a second time, paying closer attention
to the words or phrases that speak to you.

* Reflecting (meditatio) What do you hear God saying to you in
this passage? What words or phrases caught your attention?

* Responding (oratio) What do you want to say to God in
response to what you've heard? Here you can also voice your prayers
of petition, remorse, thanksgiving, praise, and so forth. If you
sense God speaking to you in your thoughts, feelings or
imagination, you respond as you would in any conversation.

* Resting (contemplatio) If, at any time, you feel drawn to
simply rest in the awareness of God's loving presence, you let
yourself do so. Remain in loving silence as long as you feel
comfortable, perhaps using a simple word or phrase from the
Scripture passage to help deepen your openness to rest in God.
