MESSAGE OF THE DAY

(Christ speaks)

"Remember -- though I do sometimes take away your inner feelings of
grace and you find you can't pray or weep, don't let yourself be
afraid. Never fear. Instead, remember I'm a hidden God within
you."

- Margery Kempe, "The Book of Margery Kempe"

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Acts 13:13-25; Ps 89:2-3, 21-22, 25 and 27 Responsorial Psalm;
Jn 13:16-20

R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

The favors of the LORD I will sing forever;
through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.
For you have said, "My kindness is established forever";
in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness.

"I have found David, my servant;
with my holy oil I have anointed him,
That my hand may be always with him,
and that my arm may make him strong."

"My faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him,
and through my name shall his horn be exalted.
He shall say of me, 'You are my father,
my God, the Rock, my savior.'"

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614

- John 13:16-20 (Jesus, the servant)

Jesus' Resurrection won for us the grace to love as God loves. This
love is to take the form of loving service, however, and is not to
be used for self-gbrification.

- Leo Tolstoy wrote that people who live according to principles
other than love can justify all sorts of treachery against other
people, invoking their principles as a rationale. Do you believe
this?

- Who are the primary beneficiaries of the loving service you
offer? Can you expand this circle?

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

Nature is covetous, and receives more willingly than it gives. It
loves to have its own private possessions. Grace, however, is
kind and
openhearted. Grace shuns private interest, is contented with
little,
and judges it more blessed to give than to receive.

Nature is inclined toward creatures, toward its own flesh, toward
vanities, and toward running about. But grace draws near to God
and to
virtue, renounces creatures, hates the desires of the flesh,
restrains
her wanderings and blushes at being seen in public.
