MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Only those who try to live near God and have formed the habit of
faithfulness to Him in the small things of our daily life, can hope
in times of need for that special light which shows us our path. To
do as well as we can the job immediately before us, is the way to
learn what we ought to do next.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Is 7:10-14; 8:10; Ps. 40:7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 11; Heb 10:4-10;
Lk 1:26-38 (Annunciation); Jn. 8: 51-19 (Lent)
R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Sacrifice or oblation you wished not,
but ears open to obedience you gave me.
Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not;
then said I, "Behold I come."
"In the written scroll it is prescribed for me,
To do your will, O my God, is my delight,
and your law is within my heart!"
I announced your justice in the vast assembly;
I did not restrain my lips, as you, O Lord, know.
Your justice I kept not hid within my heart;
your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of;
I have made no secret of your kindness and your truth
in the vast assembly.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- John 8: 51-59 (The eternal origin of the Christ)
The meeting of the human and divine in Jesus will be forever a
mystery, an inexhaustible truth. Certainly the human Jesus was
born of Mary in space and time. John, however, reminds us today
that the great I AM (Yahweh), whose knowledge is of eternity,
also lives in Jesus. The Jews consider such a belief blasphemous
and attempt to stone Jesus.
- What does today's reading say to those who consider Jesus only a
great man or one of several incarnations of God, along with Buddha
and Mohammed, for example?
- Spend some time with the passage "If I glorify myself, my glory
is worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me." Write your
impressions.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Voice of Christ
But because few labor to die entirely to self, or tend
completely away
from self, therefore they remain entangled in self, and cannot be
lifted in spirit above themselves. But he who desires to walk
freely
with Me must mortify all his low and inordinate affections, and
must
not cling with selfish love or desire to any creature.
- chapter 53
