MESSAGE OF THE DAY

On behalf of all those who help me, I beg You, reward them here on
earth with Your divine love. Help them continue to turn to You and
serve You with goodness until they die holy deaths.
- Mechthild of Magdeburg, "The Flowing Light of the Godhead"

[Consider those who help you in your life, and hold them and their
needs before God.]

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Jer 7:23-28; Ps. 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9; Lk 11:14-23

R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Come, let us sing joyfully to the LORD;
let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us joyfully sing psalms to him.

Come, let us bow down in worship;
let us kneel before the LORD who made us.
For he is our God,
and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.

Oh, that today you would hear his voice:
"Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as in the day of Massah in the desert,
Where your fathers tempted me;
they tested me though they had seen my works."

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 11: 14-23: The reign of God is upon you

The gospels reveal that it was impossible for people to encounter
Jesus and remain indifferent toward him. This passage shows that
some people interpreted his influence and power as arising from
demonic sources. Jesus exposed the irrationality of their
accusation and invited them to join him in gathering the kingdom
harvest.

- What do you believe it means to be "with" Jesus? Whom do you
believe is with him?

- What kind of conscience guards the doors of your soul? List some
of the values that are most important to you.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

If you completely conquer yourself, you will more easily subdue
all
other things. The perfect victory is to triumph over self. For
he who
holds himself in such subjection that sensuality obeys reason and
reason obeys Me in all matters, is truly his own conqueror and
master
of the world.
