MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Perfection does not consist in the knowledge of God's order, but in
submission to it. The order of God, the good pleasure of God, the
will of God, the action of God, grace--all these are one and the
same thing in this life... Perfection is nothing else than the
faithful cooperation of the soul with the work of God. This
ultimate purpose of our life grows and increases in our souls
secretly and without our knowledge.
... Jean-Pierre de Caussade (1675-1751), "Abandonment to Divine
Providence"

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Est C:12, 14-16, 23-25; Ps. 138:1-2ab, 2cde-3, 7c-8; Mt 7:7-12
R. (3a) Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me.
I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with all my heart,
for you have heard the words of my mouth;
in the presence of the angels I will sing your praise;
I will worship at your holy temple
and give thanks to your name.
Because of your kindness and your truth;
for you have made great above all things
your name and your promise.
When I called, you answered me;
you built up strength within me.
Your right hand saves me.
The LORD will complete what he has done for me;
your kindness, O LORD, endures forever;
forsake not the work of your hands.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614
- Matthew 7: 7-12: Ask, seek, knock
Jesus reveals to us a God who is generous and responsive. This
does not exempt us, however, from searching for ways to grow closer
to God. It is in the searching and asking that we discover
ourselves, as well as God's goodness.
- What are you seeking from God? from your family members?
- How would you like others to treat you? Make a list, and then
resolve to treat others likewise.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Voice of Christ
Consider the whole world as nothing. Prefer attendance upon God
to all
outward occupation, for you cannot attend upon Me and at the
same time
take delight in external things. You must remove yourself from
acquaintances and from dear friends, and keep your mind free of
all
temporal consolation. Thus the blessed Apostle St. Peter begs the
faithful of Christ to keep themselves as strangers and pilgrims
in the
world.
