MESSAGE OF THE DAY

If we look carefully within ourselves, we shall find that there are
certain limits beyond which we refuse to go in offering ourselves
to [God]. We hover around these reservations, making believe not to
see them, for fear of self-reproach... The more we shrink from
giving up any such reserved point, the more certain it is that it
needs to be given up. If we were not fast bound by it, we should
not make so many efforts to persuade ourselves that we are free.
... François Fénelon (1651-1715)

(How part of yourself or your lifestyle are you resistant to
surrendering to God's providential care? Pray the grace to
sincerely give yourself over to God.)

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Mark 6: 7-13 (The Twelve sent out)

It is important to note that Jesus sends the apostles out in pairs.
From the beginning, the importance of support in ministry has been
emphasized, as well as traveling light, free from unnecessary
burdens. Simplicity of lifestyle and fellowship in community
remain important values for Christians.

- Do you have a simple lifestyle? What adjustments do you feel
are necessary so that you might experience the freedom that the
simple life offers?

- Do you have the support you need to minister in your daily life?
Pray for the grace to experience support from friends

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Disciple

What do you especially demand of a guilty and wretched sinner,
except
that he be contrite and humble himself for his sins? In true
sorrow
and humility of heart hope of forgiveness is born, the troubled
conscience is reconciled, grace is found, man is preserved from
the
wrath to come, and God and the penitent meet with a holy kiss.
