MESSAGE OF THE DAY
That no [obedience] but a perfect one will satisfy God, I hold with
all my heart and strength; but that there is none else He cares
for, is one of the lies of the enemy. What father is not pleased
with the first tottering attempt of his little one to walk? What
father would be satisfied with anything but the manly step of the
full-grown son?
... George MacDonald (1824-1905)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
2 Sm 24:2, 9-17; Ps. 32:1-2, 5, 6, 7; Mk 6:1-6
R. (see 5c) Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
Blessed is he whose fault is taken away,
whose sin is covered.
Blessed the man to whom the LORD imputes not guilt,
in whose spirit there is no guile.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
my guilt I covered not.
I said, "I confess my faults to the LORD,"
and you took away the guilt of my sin.
For this shall every faithful man pray to you
in time of stress.
Though deep waters overflow,
they shall not reach him.
You are my shelter; from distress you will preserve me;
with glad cries of freedom you will ring me round.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
From "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
"A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and
among his own kin and in his own house."
Jesus isn't surprised by the crowd's reaction. We shouldn't be
either when we proclaim the Gospel and are frustrated at the
results. We work in Jesus' name to effect change in areas where
human life and justice are impacted, often feeling that we are
failures; no one seems to listen or care. Jesus' message ignited
the world only after his death and resurrection. We should not be
dismayed if we must work our whole lives to bring about change that
we will not live to see. Yet we are impelled and energized by grace
to continue to proclaim the Gospel and work for the coming of the
kingdom.
"Lord, give us strength to work for your kingdom and patience in
awaiting results."

AT THE MASTER'S FEET
- by Sadhu Sundar Singh
6. Many believers again--like the man born blind, on receiving his
sight--are able to see Jesus as a prophet and the Son of Man, but
do not regard Him as the Christ and the Son of God (John ix.17,
35-37), until I am revealed to them a second time in power.

REVIEW OF DAY
- from, "Handbook for Spiritual Directees"
http://shalomplace.com/view/hndbk-lite.pdf
Here is a practice used by many at the end of the day to see what
lessons can be learned and how God was present and active through
the day. Set aside fifteen to twenty minutes at the end of the
day for prayer and review of your day. A suggested format is
described below:.
1. Take a few moments of quiet. Breathe deeply. Ask God to help you
see yourself as you truly were during the day.
2. Look back over your day - not to see what you did wrong but to
honestly acknowledge what was going on with you and others.
* What happened? What did I do today?
* How did I feel? Why did I feel that way?
* Were my expectations and beliefs reasonable?
3. Affirm the healthy things you recognize.
4. Admit to yourself and God the unhealthy things. Ask God's
forgiveness, believe it is yours, then decide if you need to
apologize or make amends.
5. Use creative visualization to grow stronger. Honestly
acknowledge the troubling situations of the day. See and feel
yourself acting honestly and lovingly in these situations. Ask God
for the grace to help you act in this new way.
6. Close with simple awareness of the sights and sounds around you,
grateful for the good things in your life.
This process can be undertaken as a daily journal exercise or by
prayerfully reviewing your day in your own mind. I like to take a
walk before bedtime for examen. The important thing is to do it. It
is a discipline, to be sure, but a very important one.
