Lk 18:1-8

Mk 13:24-32

R. (1) You are my inheritance, O Lord!

O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup,
you it is who hold fast my lot.
I set the LORD ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.

Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence;
because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.

You will show me the path to life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK

- Eternal Security

Eternal Security is the doctrine that salvation cannot be lost,
because it is kept secure by Christ. Since it is not gained by
anything we do, it cannot be lost by anything we do. Eternal
Security does not mean that we can sin all we want (Rom. 6:1-2)
because we have been freed from sin and are set apart for holy use
(1 Thess. 4:7).

SAINT OF THE WEEK

- November 16th. St. Margaret of Scotland.

Daughter of one of the last Anglo-Saxon princes, Edward the
Atheling (+1057), she was born in 1046 and educated in exile in
Hungary during the Danish rule in England. She married Malcolm III
of Scotland in 1069, and proved a vital force for good in both the
Scottish court and church. She revived the abbey of Iona, and made
Dunfermline Abbey the Scottish equivalent of Westminster, a
burial-place for the Scottish royal family. Receiving of Holy
Communion, then a rare practice, was encouraged; Sunday work was
discouraged. She was cultured, here influencing her somewhat
rough-natured husband, pious and generous to the poor. Her husband
was killed in battle against William II of England; two of her own
sons, Alexander and David, became kings of Scotland. She died in
1093, was buried at Dunfermline and canonised in 1249. At the
Reformation, her body with that of her husband was taken to the
Spanish monastery of the Escorial, north of Madrid, and enshrined
there.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

- The fallen . . .

There was an old priest who got sick of all the people in his
parish who kept confessing adultery. One Sunday, from the pulpit,
he said, "If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I'll quit!"

Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone
had commiteed adultery would say they had "fallen."

This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until
the priest died at a ripe old age. About a week after the new
priest arrived, he visited the Mayor of the town and seemed very
concerned.

The priest said, "You have to do something about the sidewalk in
town. When people come to the confessional, they keep talking about
having fallen."

The Mayor started to laugh, realizing that no one had told the new
priest about the code word.

Before the Mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger
at the Mayor and said, "I don't know what you're laughing about!
Your wife fell three times this week!"
