MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Incarnate Word! Thou Word of God alone!
To live of love, 'tis to abide with Thee.
Thou knowest I love Thee, Jesus Christ, my Own!
Thy Spirit's fire of love enkindleth me.
By loving Thee, I draw the Father here
Down to my heart, to stay with me always.
Blest Trinity! Thou art my prisoner dear,
Of love, to-day.
... Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-1897)
(It's her feast day, today. We give thanks for the witness of her
life and writings.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Neh 8:1-4a, 5-6, 7b-12; Ps 19:8, 9, 10, 11; Lk 10:1-12
R. (9ab) The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.
The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul;
The decree of the LORD is trustworthy,
giving wisdom to the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
The command of the LORD is clear,
enlightening the eye;
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever;
The ordinances of the LORD are true,
all of them just.
They are more precious than gold,
than a heap of purest gold;
Sweeter also than syrup
or honey from the comb.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 10: 1-12 (The seventy-two emissaries)
Lacking the advantages of modern media to publicize his
visitations, Jesus designates seventy-two disciples to prepare the
way before him. Most noteworthy is the statement that he sends
them out in pairs. Married couples might claim this passage as an
affirmation of their own discipleship; single persons and celibates
must recognize in it a statement which emphasizes the need for
ministerial support.
- If there is a person in your life who knows you and accepts you
with all your faults, you will probably never have to worry about
your mental health," Carl Jung said. Do you have such a person in
your life? If not, resolve to find a spiritual director who can
offer you such a grace.
- People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges,"
Joseph Newton wrote. Do you agree? Look over your coming day,
anticipating times when you can build bridges.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Voice of Christ
You must still be tried on earth, and exercised in many things.
Consolation will sometimes be given you, but the complete
fullness of
it is not granted. Take courage, therefore, and be strong both
to do
and to suffer what is contrary to nature.
