R. (14) Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain wisdom of heart.
Return, O LORD! How long?
Have pity on your servants!

Fill us at daybreak with your kindness,
that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.
Make us glad, for the days when you afflicted us,
for the years when we saw evil.

Let your work be seen by your servants
and your glory by their children;
and may the gracious care of the LORD our God be ours;
prosper the work of our hands for us!
Prosper the work of our hands!

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK

- Egalitarianism

in the context of the Christian church is the teaching that all
people, both men and women, are to be treated as equal and that
women are to share all offices within the church equally with men.
This position would hold that women could be pastors, elders,
bishops, etc., and that male headship in the church and the family
is invalid. Egalitarianism is an avenue of liberalism.

SAINT OF THE WEEK

- October 9th. St. Denis & his Companions.

Denis was an Italian, sent with others to bring Christianity to the
French. He established a Christian centre on an island in the Seine
at Paris, and achieved considerable success. He was martyred in the
persecution of the Emperor Decius in 251, along with a priest,
Rusticus, and a deacon, Eleutherius. Their tombs were later to be
the focal points of the abbey of St. Denis in the north of Paris,
subsequently the burial-place of the French kings. The cult of St.
Denis received a great boost thanks to a misidentification, which
linked him with Dionysius (=Denis), one of the few Athenian
disciples of St. Paul [Acts 17], and further with the 5th century
theologian Dionysius, who wrote with much influence on the Names of
God, the Light of God, and the Unknowability of God (and who is now
known, in an attempt to remedy the confusion, as Pseudo-Dionysius).
For the purposes of this version, the evangelisation of France had
to be pushed back to the 1st. century AD and the time of the
apostles.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

"Rainbow in the Storm, Finding Hope Where There Isn't Any," by
Diane K. Chamberlain. American Book Publishing, 2009.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1589825357/ref=noism/christianspiritu/

This is the personal story of Diane Chamberlain who suffered from
childhood from intense pain caused by knee problems. She had
numerable surgeries all of which caused more pain and limited many
childhood activities which she loved so much. Bicycling had to be
taken from her life, along with her ability to bear children. So
often she asked God, "Why are you doing this to me?" Even on good
days, she had limited abilities and longed for death. Eventually
after consulting many doctors and taking a variety of medications,
she found one liquid which gave some temporary relief.

It was then that she began to turn to God in earnest prayer and beg
for guidance for the life she finally accepted. The second part of
the book contains one page reflections on Scripture and how the
quotes can be meaningful in her life, and she invites her readers
to make like reflections and prayers. Her husband joined her in
daily prayer and together both came to a deep appreciation of the
God who gives all of life. Her prayers became prayers of gratitude
for all God's gifts. What a change this transformation made in
Diane's life! God was no longer the bad Man in the sky wishing evil
and pain on God's family. No matter how dark the clouds, there is
always reason for hope.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

- Fishing on the Ark

A Sunday School teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot
of fishing when he was on the Ark?"

"No," replied Johnny. "How could he with just two worms?"

- - - and . . .

"Mr. Clark, I'm afraid I have bad news," the doctor told his
anxious patient. "You only have six months to live."

The man sat in stunned silence for the next several minutes.
Regaining his composure, he apologetically told his physician that
he had no medical insurance. "I can't possibly pay you in that
time."

"Okay," the doctor said, "let's make it nine months."
