MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Christ prays for unity, not uniformity. Where there are great
pressures for uniformity, we should be suspicious. Christians do
not have to look, dress, think, and act alike. The church is not an
assembly line producing only Fords.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Gn 44:18-21, 23b-29; 45:1-5; Ps 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21; Mt
10:7-15

R. (5a) Remember the marvels the Lord has done.

When the LORD called down a famine on the land
and ruined the crop that sustained them,
He sent a man before them,
Joseph, sold as a slave.

They had weighed him down with fetters,
and he was bound with chains,
Till his prediction came to pass
and the word of the LORD proved him true.

The king sent and released him,
the ruler of the peoples set him free.
He made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Matthew 10:7-15 (The command to travel light)

Jesus sends his disciples out into the towns and countryside with a
simple message and a powerful ministry. They are to prepare the
people for his own visitation. The disciples are told that though
this task is worthy of room and board, some will reject them. Thus
it is for all who try to be ministers of the gospel.

- Do you do your share to help support people committed to
full-time ministry in the Church? What can you contribute of your
time, talent, and money?

- Spend some time with the passage 'The gifts you have received
return as gifts." What are some of your gifts? How do you share
these with others? What happens to you when you cling to your
giftedness?

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

Oh, if these things appealed to you and penetrated deeply into
your
heart, how could you dare to complain even once? Ought not all
trials
be borne for the sake of everlasting life? In truth, the loss or
gain
of God's kingdom is no small matter.
