MESSAGE OF THE DAY

"We are not going to organize something for God to bless."
- Leonard Ravenhill

(The "organization" after the prayer, that one's will might be
rightly aligned with God's.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26; Ps 113:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8; Jn 15:9-17

R. (8) The Lord will give him a seat with the leaders of his people.

Praise, you servants of the LORD,
praise the name of the LORD.
Blessed be the name of the LORD
both now and forever.

From the rising to the setting of the sun
is the name of the LORD to be praised.
High above all nations is the LORD;
above the heavens is his glory.

Who is like the LORD, our God, who is enthroned on high
and looks upon the heavens and the earth below?

He raises up the lowly from the dust;
from the dunghill he lifts up the poor
To seat them with princes,
with the princes of his own people.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- John 15:9-17 (Jesus completes our joy)

In today's reading John explains the reason why Jesus came: he
invites us to share in God's own joy. There is always something a
bit hollow and transient in even our most intense experiences of
human pleasure and happiness. Living in love as Christ invites us
to live will increase our human joys and complete them.

- Spend some time with the verse "As the Father loves me, so I also
love you."

- Would you describe yourself as a joyful person? Do you know any
joyful people? Why are they joyful?

- Pray for the grace to be open to joy.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

He who does not keep his heart within him, and who does not have
God
before his eyes is easily moved by a word of disparagement. He who
trusts in Me, on the other hand, and who has no desire to stand
by his
own judgment, will be free from the fear of men. For I am the
judge
and discerner of all secrets. I know how all things happen. I
know who
causes injury and who suffers it. From Me that word proceeded, and
with My permission it happened, that out of many hearts thoughts
may
be revealed. I shall judge the guilty and the innocent; but I have
wished beforehand to try them both by secret judgment.
