R. (6) God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets
for the Lord.
All you peoples, clap your hands,
shout to God with cries of gladness,
For the LORD, the Most High, the awesome,
is the great king over all the earth.
God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy;
the LORD, amid trumpet blasts.
Sing praise to God, sing praise;
sing praise to our king, sing praise.
For king of all the earth is God;
sing hymns of praise.
God reigns over the nations,
God sits upon his holy throne.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK
Consubstantiation
It means an inclusion of one substance in another where the body
and blood of Christ co-exist in the elements of the Supper. It
suggests that a third substance is formed. The body and blood of
Christ are "in, with, and under" the elements. There is no
permanent relationship with the elements. Instead, the association
is limited to the sacramental action. The transformation is
effected by the Word of God and not by a priest.

(Note: this understanding is affirmed in a number of Protestant
denominations.)

SAINT OF THE WEEK
- May 28th.
St. Bernard of Aosta [Bernard of Menthon].
Claimed as a national by both French and Italians, hence the
variant of his name, he was in fact probably of Italian origin, and
was ordained in the diocese of Aosta, in the extreme N.W. of Italy
above Turin and towards the St. Bernard Pass. He was later
Vicar-General of the diocese and was distinguished for his 42 years
of systematic visitations, preaching, and foundation of schools and
churches. He had a particular concern for travellers across the
Alps, who were much at risk from snowdrifts and highway robbers.
He founded a number of refuges or guest-houses, staffed by Austin
Canons, to guard the Alpine routes; these Canons developed the
specially trained breed of rescue dog, with their famous brandy
barrels, called the 'St. Bernard' after this saint. He died in
1081. In 1923, Pope Pius XI, an enthusiastic mountain climber,
named him patron of all mountaineers.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
"Caring for Sick and Elderly, a parish guide," by Sister Marie
Roccapriore MPF. Twenty-third Publications, 2003.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1585952494/ref=noism/christianspiritu/
The world may often become small for the sick and elderly persons
confined to a healthcare facility, hospital, or at home. They have
lost independence and may have deep insecurity. Outdoor activity,
driving, traveling may be out of the question. Even for the
smallest tasks, they may need assistance. How can the parish help
alleviate their loss and expand their world? By sharing time, by
extending a compassionate hand and a prayerful heart, by showing
loving eyes and sensitive ears---the healing face of Christ may be
extended to the sick/elderly.
This book begins with a presentation of scriptural views on
suffering and healing. The healing ministry of Christ may be
extended through a network of volunteers who engage in sacramental,
spiritual, and charitable acts of service. Included in this book
are quotes from Sacred Scripture, inspirational prayer cards,
prayer services, ways to make the sacraments meaningful, ways to
offer a spiritual adoption, ideas for providing meals and food
gifts, helps in preparing volunteers, and various other ways to
share one's time and talents, always in an effort to "show the face
of Christ."

JOKE OF THE WEEK
- Where shall we dine?
The teacher of the Earth Science class was lecturing on map reading.
He spent the class explaining about latitude, longitude, degrees,
and minutes. Towards the end of class, the teacher asked his
students, "Suppose I asked you to meet me for lunch at 23 degrees,
4 minutes north latitude and 45 degrees, 15 minutes east
longitude..."
A student's voice broke the confused silence, and volunteered, "I
guess you'd be eating alone, sir."
