R. (22) The stone rejected by the builders has become the
cornerstone.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
for his mercy endures forever.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in princes.
I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me
and have been my savior.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
By the LORD has this been done;
it is wonderful in our eyes.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD;
we bless you from the house of the LORD.
I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me
and have been my savior.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
for his kindness endures forever.

Christianity in the 21st Century: Dynamics of Spiritual
Transformation
Presented by Philip St. Romain, M.S., D. Min., and Kathryn
Damiano, Ph.D.
June 12-16, 2009
Heartland Center for Spirituality
Great Bend, KS
$250 - includes registration, room and board
Christianity shapes and is shaped by the worldview of the various
cultures in which it is to be found .It is good to understand these
worldviews, and their formative influences. Nevertheless, the
Gospel is not to be identified with any particular culture or
system; it ultimately transcends these. Join us to explore how the
Spirit is calling us forth as a people during these times of
transition.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK
Complimentarianism
The theological position that there are different roles between men
and women in the Christian church, church leadership, marriage,
etc. Essentially it holds to a hierarchical structure between men
and women. This position focuses on function and calling as
revealed in the Bible, and does not assert that women are inferior
in nature.
This position would negate the possibility of women being pastors,
elders, bishops, etc. Furthermore, it would assert that the husband
is the head of the wife as well as the head of the family.
- - -
Egalitarianism
in the context of the Christian church is the teaching that all
people, both men and women, are to be treated as equal and that
women are to share all offices within the church equally with men.
This position would hold that women could be pastors, elders,
bishops, etc., and that male headship in the church and the family
is invalid. Egalitarianism is an avenue of liberalism.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
"Amazing Grace, a vocabulary of faith," by Kathleen Norris.
Riverhead Books, 1998.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1573227218/ref=noism/christianspiritu/
Kathleen Norris presents eighty short chapters, each dealing with a
large vocabulary of words important to Christians. Some are scary,
some are comforting, some are merely coming from a curious mind,
some are intimidating, some confer blessings and grace.
Drawing on her Christian background, but not necessarily a
church-qoinq background, Norris attempts to strengthen her own
faith through her writings, and to explore facets that may be new
to her readers. She blends history, theology, story, and memoir
into this book. Each short chapter examines a particular aspect of
a Christian lexicon, and in the exploration, Norris comes to a
gradual personal conversion. The author attempts to present
religion in a language often called alien and impenetrable, but she
also shows the richness of many ancient traditions.
Norris says that she hopes to present these eighty topics "with a
proper sense of humility before the great mystery of language, this
human venture that begins with the ear and the tongue and reaches
for the stars." She wants her readers to be aware of recognition,
delight, grief, and even distress at they follow her through this
remarkable lexicon.

WEB SITE OF THE WEEK
Catholic Culture
- http://www.catholicculture.org/
I found this site following a link to its review of
christusrex.org, which has numerous images of Christian art, but
has recently become polluted by the anti-Semitic views of its
founder (that's another story for another time).
The general theological slant seems to be
conservative/traditionalist, but not moreso than one will find at
EWTN or many other popular sites. The news tab provided a wealth
of links to articles one will not find in a secular newspaper nor
even on many other Catholic or Christian sites. Commentary on
current events is provided by Dr. Jeffrey Mirus of Trinity
Communications and Philip Lawler.

JOKE OF THE WEEK
A guy goes into a bar. He's sitting on the stool, enjoying his
drink when he hears, "You look great!" He looks around - there's
nobody near him. He hears the voice again, "No really, you look
terrific."
The guy looks around again. Nobody. He hears, "Is that a new shirt
or something? Because you are absolutely glowing!" He then realizes
that the voice is coming from a dish of nuts on the bar.
"Hey," the guy calls to the bartender, "What's with the nuts?"
"Oh," the bartender answers, "They're complimentary."
