WEEKEND READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Saturday: Acts 13:44-52; Ps 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4; Jn 14:7-14
Sunday: Acts 9:26-31; Ps 22:26-27, 28, 30, 31-32; 1 Jn
3:18-24; Jn 15:1-8
R. (26a) I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.
I will fulfill my vows before those who fear the LORD.
The lowly shall eat their fill;
they who seek the LORD shall praise him:
"May your hearts live forever!"
All the ends of the earth
shall remember and turn to the LORD;
all the families of the nations
shall bow down before him.
To him alone shall bow down
all who sleep in the earth;
before him shall bend
all who go down into the dust.
And to him my soul shall live;
my descendants shall serve him.
Let the coming generation be told of the LORD
that they may proclaim to a people yet to be born
the justice he has shown.

Damiano, Ph.D.
June 12-16, 2009
Heartland Center for Spirituality
Great Bend, KS
$250 - includes registration, room and board
Christianity shapes and is shaped by the worldview of the various
cultures in which it is to be found .It is good to understand these
worldviews, and their formative influences. Nevertheless, the
Gospel is not to be identified with any particular culture or
system; it ultimately transcends these. Join us to explore how the
Spirit is calling us forth as a people during these times of
transition.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK
Condemnation
Declaring an evildoer to be guilty; the punishment inflicted.
Without Jesus we stand condemned before God not only because of the
sin of Adam (Rom. 5:16-18) but also because of our own sin (Matt.
12:37). However, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in
Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death,"
(Rom. 8:1-2). Christians have passed out of condemnation because
they are forgiven in Christ.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
"Called to Question," by Joan Chittister. Sheed and Ward. 2004.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1580512194/ref=noism/christianspiritu/
Sister Joan invites the reader to go deeper into the spirit of the
Gospels and she beckons all to question any authority that does not
seem to ring true. She does this in a kindly and wise manner and
offers hope to those who may feel unhappy with institutionalized
religion. She answers questions that she once had, as well as ones
that arise today.
This book is divided into six parts of key themes: inward life,
immersion in life, resistance, feminist spirituality, ecology, and
dailiness. In each theme Sister Joan provides inspiration in
sociology and theology, as well as in the order of a rights
activist, and spiritual guide. Each chapter is a source of wisdom
in the areas of Gods existence, the role of men and women in the
church, and the celebration of life. Sister Joan encourages the
readers to look into the center of their souls, name their own
questions, admit the worst, and look for the best.
Her first chapter offers this story of a seeker who once asked a
monastic what they do in a monastery. "We fall and we get up, and
we fall and we get up, and we fall and get up again.' Sister Joan
offers this tale to show the difference between faith and despair,
and promises this to be a book about growth. "This book traces both
the falling and the getting up process that takes us all into the
center of ourselves to find the reason and the strength to bother
going on when we fail so often."

JOKE OF THE WEEK
- Filling in for St. Peter
A famous professor of surgery died and went to heaven. At the
pearly gate he was asked by the gatekeeper: 'Have you ever
committed a sin you truly regret?'
'Yes,' the professor ansvered. 'When I was a young candidate at the
hospital of Saint Lucas, we played soccer against at team from the
Community Hospital, and I scored a goal, which was off-side. But
the referee did not see it so, and the goal won us the match. I
regret that now.'
'Well,' said the gatekeeper. 'That is a very minor sin. You may
enter.'
'Thank you very much, Saint Peter,' the professor ansvered.
'Im am not Saint Peter,' said the gatekeeper. 'He is having his
lunchbreak. I am Saint Lucas.'
