MESSAGE OF THE DAY

When all nature is at rest, not a leaf moving, then at evening the
dew comes down -- no eye to see the pearly drops descending, no ear
to hear them falling on the verdant grass -- so does the Spirit come
to you who believe. When the heart is at rest in Jesus -- unseen,
unheard by the world -- the Spirit comes, and softly fills the
believing soul, quickening all, renewing all within.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Acts 13:13-25; Ps 89:2-3, 21-22, 25 and 27; Jn 13:16-20

R. (2) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

The favors of the LORD I will sing forever;
through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.
For you have said, "My kindness is established forever";
in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness.

"I have found David, my servant;
with my holy oil I have anointed him,
That my hand may be always with him,
and that my arm may make him strong."

"My faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him,
and through my name shall his horn be exalted.
He shall say of me, 'You are my father,
my God, the Rock, my savior.'"

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614

- John 13:16-20 (Jesus, the servant)

Jesus' Resurrection won for us the grace to love as God loves. This
love is to take the form of loving service, however, and is not to
be used for self-gbrification.

- Leo Tolstoy wrote that people who live according to principles
other than love can justify all sorts of treachery against other
people, invoking their principles as a rationale. Do you believe
this?

- Who are the primary beneficiaries of the loving service you
offer? Can you expand this circle?

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

Listen to My word, and you will not value ten thousand words of
men.
Behold, if every malicious thing that could possibly be invented
were
uttered against you, what harm could it do if you ignored it all
and
gave it no more thought than you would a blade of grass? Could
it so
much as pluck one hair from your head?
