WEEKEND READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Saturday: 1 Pt 5:5b-14; Ps 89:2-3, 6-7, 16-17; Mk 16:15-20
R. (2) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
The favors of the LORD I will sing forever;
through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.
For you have said, "My kindness is established forever";
in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness.
The heavens proclaim your wonders, O LORD,
and your faithfulness, in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can rank with the LORD?
Who is like the LORD among the sons of God?
Blessed the people who know the joyful shout;
in the light of your countenance, O LORD, they walk.
At your name they rejoice all the day,
and through your justice they are exalted.

Christianity shapes and is shaped by the worldview of the various
cultures in which it is to be found .It is good to understand these
worldviews, and their formative influences. Nevertheless, the
Gospel is not to be identified with any particular culture or
system; it ultimately transcends these. Join us to explore how the
Spirit is calling us forth as a people during these times of
transition.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK
Communicatio idiomatum
The theological position that the properties of both the human and
the divine natures of Jesus are attributed to the one person of
Christ. For example, John 17:5 is where Jesus, the man, says, "And
now, glorify Thou Me together with Thyself, Father, with the glory
which I had with Thee before the world was." We see here that Jesus
who was born on earth says He had glory with the Father before the
world was. This is because the one person of Christ has two
natures: God and man. Jesus is the Divine Word made flesh (John
1:1,14). We see in the single person of Christ both the attributes
of divinity and humanity.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
"An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination, a Memoir," by
Elizabeth McCracken. Little Brown and Company, 2008.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0316027677/ref=noism/christianspiritu/
Before losing a child at birth, this author was given a strange
request by a woman, "You should write a book about the lighter
side of losing a child. You're very funny." What a request! How
could I write about something so devastating and make it a funny
book? "I declined the offer", McCracken said. A joke book for the
bereaved? A comic strip guide to outliving your children?
McCracken married and while living with her husband in a remote
part of France, the couple waited for the birth of their first
child. In the ninth month of pregnancy, the baby is lost. The
couple struggled in their grief. Should they hold the dead baby?
Should they give him a name? They had always referred to him as
Pudding during the pregnancy. Should they keep his ashes after the
cremation, or should they scatter them on a beautiful meadow?
After a second pregnancy, a baby is born. In between, McCracken
tells the sad story of true love and unfathomable sadness, of the
fears that she would do something wrong and cause a second death.
It is a story of courageous recovery and bittersweet moments, of
steadfast memories and deep affection. It is a story of happiness
and hope in the birth of a healthy baby boy.
This book is for anyone who has ever experienced a like loss, and
for those who continue to hope for another child. Pudding, her
first child, never was forgotten, even in the joy of accepting Gus
into the family. The readers will laugh and they will cry; they
will feel the intense pain of a couple deprived of their first
born. But they will also look to this book for HOPE.

JOKE OF THE WEEK
A woman met her husband at the train station after work for the
ride home. He looked haggard, so she asked, "Rough day?"
"You bet it was," he groaned. "Our computers were down, and we had
to think all day long."
(That IS tough!)

- bonus
This young couple invited their parson for Sunday dinner. While
they were in the kitchen preparing the meal, the minister asked
their young son what they were having.
"Goat," the little boy replied.
"Goat?" replied the startled man of the cloth. "Are you sure about
that?"
"Yep," said the youngster. "I heard Pa say to Ma, 'Might as well
have the old goat for dinner today as any other day.'"
