MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Salt, when dissolved in water, may disappear, but it does not cease
to exist. We can be sure of its presence by tasting the water.
Likewise, the indwelling Christ, though unseen, will be made
evident to others from the love which he imparts to us.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Dt 30:15-20; Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6; Lk 9:22-25

R. (40:5a) Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

Blessed the one who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.

He is like a tree
planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.

Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 9: 22-25: Take up your cross!

Jesus tried to help his disciples realize that his commitment to
love would lead him into a fatal conflict with the authorities of
his day. Dying to ourselves for the sake of love will lead us,
with Jesus, to new life.

- Make a list of those personal traits which you need to change for
the sake of love. Which of these most frustrates your efforts at
loving?

- Pray for the grace to change destructive behaviors.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

GRANT me help in my needs, O Lord, for the aid of man is
useless. How
often have I failed to find faithfulness in places where I
thought I
possessed it! And how many times I have found it where I least
expected it! Vain, therefore, is hope in men, but the salvation
of the
just is in You, O God. Blessed be Your name, O Lord my God, in
everything that befalls us.
