SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Gn 9:1-13; Ps 102:16-18, 19-21, 29 and 22-23; Mk 8:27-33
R. (20b) From heaven the Lord looks down on the earth.
The nations shall revere your name, O LORD,
and all the kings of the earth your glory,
When the LORD has rebuilt Zion
and appeared in his glory;
When he has regarded the prayer of the destitute,
and not despised their prayer.
Let this be written for the generation to come,
and let his future creatures praise the LORD:
"The LORD looked down from his holy height,
from heaven he beheld the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoners,
to release those doomed to die."
The children of your servants shall abide,
and their posterity shall continue in your presence,
That the name of the LORD may be declared in Zion,
and his praise, in Jerusalem,
When the peoples gather together,
and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Mark 8: 27-33 (Who do you say he is?)
This passage marks a turning point in Mark's Gospel. The
community, through Peter, asserts its faith in Jesus as the Messiah
and, in turn, challenges all people to answer this most important
of all questions for themselves.
- Who do you say Jesus was/is? Why do you believe this?
- You may find it helpful to write a short letter to Jesus. Thank
him for being who he is for you.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
To what have we come, Lord? Behold, we bewail a temporal loss. We
labor and fret for a small gain, while loss of the soul is
forgotten
and scarcely ever returns to mind. That which is of little or no
value
claims our attention, whereas that which is of highest necessity
is
neglected -- all because man gives himself wholly to outward
things.
And unless he withdraws himself quickly, he willingly lies
immersed in
externals.
