Loyalty is so fierce and contagious an energy that it is safe only when the object of it is something that we can love or worship when we are alone.

MK 2:18-22
The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to fast.
People came to Jesus and objected,
"Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast,
but your disciples do not fast?"
Jesus answered them,
"Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.
But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast on that day.
No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak.
If he does, its fullness pulls away,
the new from the old, and the tear gets worse.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins,
and both the wine and the skins are ruined.
Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins."

Praying the Daily Gospels: A Guide to Meditation, by Philip St. Romain, 2018 (3rd ed.)
____________
Mark 2: 18-22 (On new wine and new cloth)
Jealousy prompts the Pharisees and the disciples of John to try to find fault with Jesus' spirituality. Rather than return the criticism, as he could have done, Jesus invites them to be open to a new way of doing God's will.
* Gibran said that Jesus stood before the world as the first man stood on the first day. Are you open to seeing the world in its daily newness?
* Resolve to stop many times today to appreciate creation and the people around you. Give thanks to God for these gifts. Begin now.

God and
I: Exploring the Connections between God, Self and Ego, by Philip St. Romain, 2016 (2nd ed.)
____________
Chapter 9: Spiritual Transformation -- God, Self and Ego
3. We Discover Our True Identity in God
The term “True Self” is sometimes used in reference to this new, mysterious identity, especially in opposition to false self. I myself have used the term in some of my earlier writings. I do not want to give the wrong impression, here, as I do not wish to imply that True Self is something other than what we have referred to as Self and even Ego in this work. There is no separate True Self beyond Self!
Sometimes writers speak of “Christ Consciousness” as a level beyond Self that we finally awaken to, but I do not see things that way. Christ Consciousness is the consciousness of Christ, not Self. Self participates in Christ Consciousness via grace (the Holy Spirit).
