Why does He make our hearts so strangely still, Why stands He forth so stately and so tall? Because He has no self to serve, no will That does not seek the welfare of the All. ... Edwin
Markham (1852-1940)
(Pray that something of this benevolent will moves through you this day.)

JER 26:1-9; PS 69:5, 8-10, 14
MT
13:54-58 Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?” And they took offense at him. But
Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.” And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.

Praying the Daily Gospels: A Guide to Meditation, by Philip St. Romain,
2018 (3rd ed.) ____________
Matthew 13: 54-58 His own town rejects Jesus
It is
ironic that the people with whom we are the closest are also the people who often limit us most. This is what happened to Jesus in Nazareth. His brethren relatives are not open to his ministry because their ideas of him are too limited.
• Do you feel that the people with whom you live love and accept you the
way you are? Do the people with whom you work love and accept you?
• “We like people in proportion to the good we do them and not in proportion to the good they do us, Laurence Sterne wrote. Do you agree?

God and I: Exploring the Connections between God, Self and Ego, by Philip St. Romain, 2016 (2nd
ed.) ____________ Chapter 8: Mystical Union: Self and God
The Prayer of Quiet
Contemplation begins with the Prayer of Quiet, which is a sense of resting in God at a level of consciousness that is deeper than any activities of the mind or will; you cannot “go
there” unless God draws you to it. In this state, there is no longer any need for the prayer word; one just simply abides with God, Who manifests not as a vision or any kind of form, but as a mysterious peaceful inner presence. The “I” of awareness is still present, and thoughts can come and go, but the will rests in God, so there is no movement to reflect on the situation, nor do anything with it. Because one is aware, it is possible to communicate with God with one’s thoughts, but there is
usually a reluctance to do so. It is enough to rest . . . just to be . . . with God.
