Ready-to-halt, poor Fearing, and thou, Mrs. Despondency, and Much-afraid, go often there [the empty tomb]; let it be your favourite haunt, there build a tabernacle, there abide. And often say to your heart, when you are in distress and sorrow, “Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
- Charles Haddon Spurgeon

(Jesus is risen! Let yourself feel impact of this affirmation.)

ACTS 3:11-26;   PS 8:2AB AND 5, 6-7, 8-9

LK 24:35-48

The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way,
and how they had come to recognize him in the breaking of bread.

While they were still speaking about this,
he stood in their midst and said to them,
"Peace be with you."
But they were startled and terrified
and thought that they were seeing a ghost.
Then he said to them, "Why are you troubled?
And why do questions arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.
Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones
as you can see I have."
And as he said this,
he showed them his hands and his feet.
While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed,
he asked them, "Have you anything here to eat?"
They gave him a piece of baked fish;
he took it and ate it in front of them.

He said to them,
"These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,
that everything written about me in the law of Moses
and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled."
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
And he said to them,
"Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,
would be preached in his name
to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things."

Luke 24: 35-48 (Jesus appears to his disciples.)

There is little doubt that Jesus' disciples believed that he had been raised from the dead and that they experienced him in a profoundly significant way.  In today's reading Luke tries to express some of the impressions left by the risen Christ on his disciples.  He leaves us with as many questions as answers, however.  What was the nature of this risen body, for example?  These are questions we cannot answer.  Like the disciples, we are simply invited to accept Jesus as our risen lord.

¥ How do you feel about the prospect of your own death?  How does belief in the Resurrection help you live more fully before death?

¥ Spend some time hearing Jesus say to you, “Peace be with you.”

God and I: Exploring the Connections between God, Self and Ego, by Philip St. Romain, 2016 (2nd ed.)
____________

Chapter 3: Ego (excerpts)

Just as Self is essentially spiritual, so, too is Ego. The difference is that in the non-reflecting experience of Self, one is more awake to oneself as a spiritual presence. In the purest experiences of Self, all intellectual, volitional and psychological operations are brought to stillness. Self then encounters the world primarily through the senses, which come alive with a vitality we do not experience when operating out of Ego. But it is through the operation of the Ego that the powers of the body, psyche and spirit are brought into focus that one might make a living and find one’s way in the world. This is an ongoing process, as body and psyche are integrated through time, with identity being formed along the way. Psychologists like Jane Loevinger have described this process in terms of stages, with the Ego developing and being identified with a wider range of potential through time . . . if all goes well, that is.
