Christ is the wisdom of God; and in the knowledge of this Christ there is wisdom for you. Not wisdom only, but life, forgiveness, peace, glory, and an endless kingdom! Study
Him! Acquaint yourself with Him! Whatever you are ignorant of, be not ignorant of Him. Whatever you overlook, overlook not Him. What ever you lose, lose not Him. To gain Him is to gain eternal life, to gain a kingdom, to gain everlasting blessedness. To lose Him is to lose your soul, to lose God, to lose God’s favour, to lose God’s heaven, to lose the eternal crown! - Horatius Bonar (Acquaint yourself with
Him.)

Daniel 6:12-28 Daniel 3:68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74 Luke 21:20-28 Jesus said to his disciples, ‘When you see Jerusalem surrounded by
armies, you must realise that she will soon be laid desolate. Then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those in country districts must not take refuge in it. For this is the time of vengeance when all that scripture says must be fulfilled. Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come! ‘For great misery will descend on the land and wrath on this people. They will fall
by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every pagan country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the pagans until the age of the pagans is completely over. ‘There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves; men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud
with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.’
Reflection on the Scriptures
Luke 21: 20-28 (The Second Coming) The Church has
always believed that her risen Lord would return. Just how, when, and where this will occur we do not know, despite the insistence of Fundamentalist exegetes to the contrary. Jesus’ teachings concerning his return come to us couched in the words of apocalyptic literature, which is highly symbolic and difficult to understand. It is enough for us to believe that history will not terminate in some catastrophic dead end; Christ shall one day be all in all.” • What does the Second Coming mean to you? • Do you believe you will be faced with the prospect of living through personal and/or national catastrophe before you die? If so, how do you propose to
remain hopeful when those times come? -from Praying the Daily Gospels

ONE: Thoughts Helpful in the Life of a Soul
The Tenth Chapter: Avoiding Idle Talk SHUN gossip as much as possible, for discussion of worldly affairs, even though sincere, is a great distraction inasmuch as we are quickly ensnared and captivated by vanity. Many a time I wish that I had held my peace and had not associated with others. Why, indeed, do we converse and gossip among ourselves when we so seldom
part without a troubled conscience? We do so because we seek comfort from one another's conversation and wish to ease the mind wearied by diverse thoughts. Hence, we talk and think quite fondly of things we like very much or of things we dislike intensely. But, sad to say, we often talk vainly and to no purpose; for this external pleasure effectively bars inward and divine consolation. Therefore we must watch and pray lest time pass idly. When the right and opportune moment comes for speaking, say something that will edify. Bad habits and indifference to spiritual progress do much to remove the guard from the tongue. Devout conversation on spiritual matters, on the contrary, is a great aid to spiritual progress, especially when persons of the same mind and spirit associate together in
God.
